About Me

My name is Keith P. Wawrzyniak Jr., but I prefer to go with KP.

I moved back to Colorado in 1995, after graduating college. My wife and I have three children, one of which is in middle school, another in high school, and another in college. We seem to stay very busy with all their sporting events. We love the mountains and try to make it up there, at least, a few times a year. We love Colorado!

I received my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology in 1994, while living in Virginia, and received my Master's Degree in Science of Counseling in 2009 here in Colorado. The past handful of years, my team and I have, primarily, worked with individuals and families through the Child Welfare system. Prior to that, I had over 10 years of casework experience for Weld County, working within child protection, youth services and adult protective services. I have about 10 years experience working with individuals and families in an acute residential mental health facility, and another seven years in private practice, formerly known as Dynamic Family Design. Of course, some of these years overlapped, otherwise, I would be really old! Through the court system, I have experience as a Parent Coordinate/Decision-maker, Child and Family Investigator and involved in reunification/reintegration. I have been registered as an Unlicensed Psychotherapist for over 10 years. By the time I completed my Masters Degree, and with my experience in private practice and residential mental health, I did not feel the need to pursue my licensure, nor did I want to accrue the additional cost for another piece of paper.

With that said, I thoroughly enjoy what I do by; helping strengthen parent-child relationships, strengthening parenting skills, helping couples get aligned with parenting, whether they are in the same household or separate households, bettering communication between couples and the family as a whole, supporting youth while engaging in some kind of activity, helping strengthen personal confidence and self-esteem,
decreasing insecurities, and supporting men in dealing with and understanding depression.

My Approach

I like to utilize a Solution-focused approach, along with some Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. This will allow you to work on some immediate goals or solutions, followed by the work that needs to be done to develop coping strategies, some insight and work on changing some of the negative or distorted thought patterns that may be the root to what you are experiencing or dealing with. I will support you and listen to your needs, but will also challenge you to do the work and progress at your comfort level.

To the men out there, young and old: We have the highest rates of suicide, possibly due to thinking that counseling is for the weak, and thinkin it is not manly to share our emotions. I get we believe it is our responsibility to take care of and provide for our family, and be strong for our family, but if we are not taking care of ourselves, we cannot effectively take care of others. Your family will appreciate you reaching out for some guidance or support, whether you tell them about it or not. Both you and your family will benefit from this. If giving me a call isn’t your first step, then please get online and meet my friend Dr. Mahogany at Mantherapy.org. He is a funny guy and may be of some support.
